CRS composite Therapeutic & Performance Horseshoes are designed to support horses dealing with extreme lameness as well as to enhance the capabilities of high-performance athletes. The patented, rounded surface offers exceptional comfort, helping horses find relief in both the medial/lateral and dorsal/palmer planes. Discover the difference our advanced horseshoe technology can make for your horse's well-being and performance.
Where the idea began...
When I started my farrier apprenticeship in the mid-80s, I began to notice that some horses don’t remain balanced in the medial-lateral plane over the course of a 4-to-6-week cycle.
This is often attributed to trimming error, but the variation in heel length is too large to blame on human mistakes alone.
After decades of failing to make a real difference with conventional methods, I was shown an article by Dr. Robert Bowker that stated that lameness cases benefit from deformable surfaces like pea gravel.
I earned the AFA Certified Journeyman Farrier designation in 2007, with the goal of better serving lameness cases.
With this certification, along with an understanding of the medial-lateral relief supplied by pea gravel, I came to believe that giving horses two forms of mechanical relief was the answer to laminitis.
The first, medial-lateral, led me to utilize a polymer soft enough to deform slightly and comfortably support a horse’s hoof despite the terrain it is on. The second is the breakover angle, much like a running shoe allows for a more comfortable stride. This reduction in angle minimizes the effort a horse exerts while mobile.
